Signs of Spirit

Signs of Spirit

Debra & Larry Redalia in 2005, when they started researching and writing about signs of spirit.

In 2005, we became aware that even though spirit is invisible to the eye, it’s characteristics can be observed in ourselves and others.

Signs of Spirit are evidence of the existence of the unseen spirit. They are characteristics that can be observed in ourselves and others. Once known and recognized as coming from spirit, we can choose to activate and cultivate them in ourselves, thus living as spirits in daily life.

We call these characteristics “signs of spirit” because they demonstrate the presence of spirit, just as a heartbeat and breathing our “signs of life” for the body.

We have been writing first-person short stories about our experiences observiing signs of spirit in ourselves and others and also about how we intentionally use these spirit abiities in our daily lives.

Our intent in sharing these stories is to make it more kown in the world that spirit exists and exists in each and every human being in addition to all of Life. Perhaps our stories will inspire you to find these signs of spirit in yourself and others.

How I Bypassed the Line at the Big Box Store

by Debra Redalia

This story is about this sign-of-spirit: self-determination.

On Friday Larry and I decided it was time to set up our garden for the summer.

We have a lot of gophers where we live, so we garden in half-barrels from local wineries, placed on cinder blocks for drainage and filled with potting soil, compost, and manure.

We had purchased four new half-barrels at the end of the season last year, so we needed to buy more potting soil and cinderblocks.

We bought the potting soil at a big box store and then needed to go next door to the big box building materials store to get the cinder blocks.

We could see there was a line to get inside the store because of the coronavirus social distancing.

We had brought Larry's trailer because everything would not fit in the back of Larry’s car.

So we tried to drive to the back of the building where we thought the cinder blocks would be.

On the way, we passed by the contractor’s entrance and there was a salesman there.

I called out to him. “We need to buy some cinderblocks. Can you give us curbside service so we don’t need to come inside the store?”

“No, we don’t do that.”

“Well, could I come in this entrance and pay?”\

“No, this is only for contractors.”

So we drove on into the area where we thought the cinderblocks might be and hear someone yelling at us, “Get out of there! Get out! Get out! Get out!”

We managed to back out and again. I got out of the car, stood there and yelled as loud as I could, “I need to buy cinder blocks! How do I do that?”

A man yelled back to me that I had to go to the front entrance (about 3 blocks away) and then stand in line (a long line) and then walk another three blocks back through the story to a spot very close to where I was standing, but insider the store.

It looked like I had no choice, so I started walking.

When I passed the contractor’s entrance, the man who had refused to allow me to enter before called to me and apologized. “Here, come in here,” he said.

He immediately got a salesman for me, who took me directly to the cinderblocks and loaded them into the cart. He then took me to the cashier where there was no line. Then he came out to the car with me and loaded the cinderblocks into the truck. We were done in five minutes. No delay.

I’m telling you this story to show you that intention does prevail, even in circumstances that look impossible. It’s our natural state to have everything go smoothly and it will unless we have counter thoughts that determine otherwise. When I stood there and intended for things to go right with all my might, suddenly they did. But if I hadn’t done that, I would probably still be waiting in line.

We always have a choice to change things and make a situation better. I use that spirit ability frequently and so can you.

THE NEXT DAY...having learned I didn't have to wait in line at stores now, the following day when I needed to buy a half-barrel at my local hardware store, I just went into the back where they sell them and called through the chain-link fence to the salesperson, "I need a half-barrel!" He came to the gate and let me in, I chose my barrel and he sent me into the store through the back door so I wouldn't have to wait in line. There was no line at the register. I paid, walked out with my receipt, and the salesman loaded the barrel in my car. Done!

Signs of Spirit

We created The Signs of Spirit Project to identify and define the signs of spirit we can observe and to establish a nomenclature for the subject of spirit, written from a spirit viewpoint. We’re finding that some signs of spirit do not yet have English words and we are having to create some words to use in our writing.

Feel free to comment on and ask questions about these words and their definitions.

DEBRA REDALIA, Co-Founder of Spirits Bright, became aware she was a spiritual being when her body was six years old, but didn't learn much about what that meant until she met soulmate Larry Redalia twenty-six years later. Together they have helped each other discover the characteristics of spirit and put them into practice in daily life. Since 2005, Debra and Larry have been writing Signs of Spirit stories—first person accounts of their true life adventures as spiritual belings. The are co-founders of Spirits Bright and The Signs of Spirit Project.
