The Daily Spirit

Spirit is the basis of all life—from our human lives to life-as-a-whole.

Yet in our industrial-consumer world, there is very little awareness of the existence of spirit and even less knowledge of its functions in the ongoing creation and maintenance of life.

My intent for The Daily Spirit is to have a place to explore and communicate about the nature of spirit with a result of creating a world where the living functions of spirit are acknowledged, understood, honored, respected and used by everyone as a natural and normal function of everyday life.

Please feel free to comment on, question, and discuss anything you read here. Please communicate.

We have observed for ourselves that we are each an expression of one Whole Spirit, and as such we each have a right and responsibility to be self-determined about every aspect of our lives. It is about being the spirit that is our birthright and using our abilities for good in the world.

Peace Pilgrim Walked More Than 25,000 Miles for Peace

My great-aunt Louise was a woman well ahead of her time.

After her husband died in 1945, she began to study yoga and became assistant to a guru who had come over from India. When he left his body, all of his worldly belongings—including a massive library of spiritual books going back into the 1800s—were left to her. And when she left her body, all of her worldly belongings were left to me, including the library of spiritual books.

Among them was a book called Peace Pilgrim: Her Life abbd Work in Her Own Words , which I read tweets years ago. When I took it off the shelf this morning, I was surprised to see how much more I understand today than I did then, and how aligned my viewpoint is which hers today.

It’s the story of a remarkable woman who walked more than 25,000 miles for peace, with no sponsorship, no money and only one set of clothing. Despite this, she had many opportunities to speak to individuals and groups and churches, and all her physical needs were met at all times.

The situation in the world around us is just a reflection of the collective situation [within us]. In the final analysis, only as we become more peaceful people will we be finding ourselves living in a more peaceful world.

When enough of us find inner peace, our institutions will become more peaceful and there will be no more occasion for war.

Given all the conflict and confusion in the USA right now, I wanted to share her message here. Because I agree with her. When we know peace within ourselves, we bring a bit of peace to our space and relationships. And as each of us find peace, there will be peace throughout the world.

Inner peace is not something you need to cultivate, it is the result of spiritual awareness. It is simply a characteristic of that level of awareness.

I touched God as love. I touched God as goodness. I touched God as kindness. It came to me that God is a creative force, a motivating power, an over-all intelligence, an ever-present, all-pervading spirit—which ends everything in the universe together and gives life to everything…I could not be where God is not. You are within God. God is within you.

One of the steps Peace Pilgrim gives is to live a simple life. She admits that it took a number of years for her to achieve this. Again, I agree with this. For the past few years I have been progressively paring down my material belongings as I grow spiritually.

In our culture today, we are always looking for physical solutions to problems that never get solved. When we can move past the material and have spiritual shifts, the material problems take care of themselves.
